FROM
THE PRESIDENT’S PEN ………. :
Dear Worthy Brethren
and Brethren ,
One of the basic principles of our Order is Gemiluth Chasadim in its actual sense. I would like to expand on the real meaning of the concept so as to have a better understand of the true meaning of the philosophy behind it. Gemiluth Chasadim is a virtue which not only includes the giving of financial assistance, but includes help of every kind: visiting the sick, comforting those who mourn, and showing compassion in times of need as well as every other act of kindness to your fellow being. The Mishnah considers it to be among the things for which no limit has been prescribed. Since Gemiluth Chasadim consists of personal acts of kindness, and does not only involve money, it can and should be practiced by all, rich and poor alike.
Kindness shown to the dead is indeed an act of true love since there is no prospect of repayment or gratitude. A poor man may one day be in a position to repay his benefactor, but a dead man cannot repay, thus an act of kindness must be done without any expectation of gratitude or reward. According to the Talmud, whoever is merciful is certainly of the children of Abraham. The Jewish people are characterized by modesty, mercy and benevolence.
Maimonides, in his Mishneh Torah writes: “The quality of mercy is characteristic of the Jewish people. They are like brothers, and if a brother shows no mercy towards a brother, then who will? On whom then should the poor of Israel depend? Alas, their help must come only from their brethren. The highest degree of righteousness is to aid a man in want by offering him a gift or a loan , or by assisting him in any other manner of means available to you , so as to assist him to become self supporting.”
Gemilut Chasadim finds expression in all efforts of goodwill and is exemplified by receiving all men cheerfully, by loving and striving for peace. Brethren, let us all bear these principles in mind and make an all out effort to practice the Mitzva of true Gemiluth Chasadim.
Fraternally yours,
Worthy
Brother BENNIE STEINGOLD.
PRESIDENT.

A BLONDE WITH A PROBLEM
Returning home from work , a blonde was shocked to find that her house had been ransacked and burglarized . She telephoned the Police at once and reported the crime .
The Police dispatcher broadcast the call on all channels , and a K – 9 ( Dog ) Unit patrolling nearby was the first to respond .
As the K – 9 Officer approached the house with his dog on a leash , the blonde ran out on the porch, shuddered at the sight of the cop and his dog , then sat down on the steps .
Putting her face in her hands , she moaned : “ I come home to find all my possessions stolen. I call the Police for help , and what do they do ? They send me a BLIND policeman ! ”.
