Our  OPEN  TABLE  LODGE  MEETING,  to  which  our  Wives  and  Ladies  are  cordially  invited,  will  start  at  8:00 p.m.  with  a  “  Kabbalat  Panim  ”,  to  be  followed  by  the  talk  to  be  presented  by 

Professor  Aaron  Axelrod. 

The  talk  is  entitled  “  THE  REAL  DATE  of  EXODUS  -  IS  IT  FACT   or   FICTION  ?  ”. 

Professor  Aaron  Axelrod,  who  is  the  T. V.  and  Cine`  Director  at  the  Tel  Aviv  University,  has  done  considerable  research  on  his  subject,  and  by  all  accounts,  his  talk  is  most  interesting,  and  is  well  worth  hearing.

At  the  conclusion  of  Professor  Axelrod’s  talk,  all  Worthy  Brethren  and  Brethren  will  enter  the  Temple  for  our  November  Open  Lodge  Meeting.

FROM   THE    PRESIDENT’S    PEN:

Dear Worthy Brethren and Brethren,

The book of Proverbs together with the books of Job and Ecclesiastes are referred to as the “Wisdom Literature of the Bible.” They contain maxims and aphorisms for a better conduct of everyday life. In the book of Proverbs, the ideal of life is a composite of honesty, diligence, helpfulness toward the distressed and consideration for one’s fellow man. Is it a coincidence that they also reflect so many of the basic principles as laid down by our noble order? The authors of these books, together with the prophets, strove to foster among the Jewish people a life of uprightness, and sought to alleviate the suffering of oppressed fellow men. Throughout the book man is warned of the spiritual and physical consequences of evil conduct.

 

Following are but a few of the judicious teachings from the Book of Proverbs of which we should be reminded from time to time, and strive to heed: “He who controls his tongue is a wise man.” “A wise man listens to advice.” “Reckless words wound like a sword.” “He who guards his lips guards his life.” “Wealth won in haste will dwindle.” “Associate with wise men and you will be wise.”  

 

“The man who loves his son disciplines him.” “He who is kind to the poor honors his Maker.” “A soft answer turns away wrath.” “Even a fool may pass for wise if he says nothing.” “A good reputation is better than riches.” “Do not eat the bread of a niggardly man.” “Never talk to a fool.” “Do not rejoice when your enemy fails.”

 

“Go seldom to your neighbor’s house, for he may grow tired of you and hate you.” “If your enemy is hungry, give him food; if he is thirsty, give him water.” “Never boast about tomorrow; you never know what that day may bring.” “He who gives to the poor will not come to want.” “Only a fool gives full vent to his temper.” “Defend the rights of the poor and needy/”

 

How striking are the similarities of these maxims contained in the Book of Proverbs to those precepts of our Order! The similarities do not necessarily indicate a conscious borrowing of one source from the other, but the universality of these general truths make them applicable to all environments. Live by them and you will enjoy a more fulfilled and gratifying life.

   David,  Son  of  Brother  Isaac  Maimon,  who  has  had  an  operation,  as  a  result  of  injuries  sustained  in

an  accident  while  in  the  Army  in  May  last  year.

It  is  expected  that  the  Worthy  Brother  Grand  President  will  be  accompanied  by  a  substantial  Delegation  of  Worthy  Brethren  and  Brethren  from  South  Africa,  in  support  of  the  Centenary  Celebrations  of  the  Hebrew  Order  of  David  International.

 

Further  details  of  the  arrangements  for  the  Combined  Installation  will  be  published  at  a  later  date.  This  forthcoming  Combined  Annual  Installation  is  being  hosted  by  Lodge  Lishkat  Hasharon,  Netanya.
