FROM   THE    PRESIDENT’S    PEN:

Dear Worthy Brethren and Brethren,

I dedicate my message this month to those of our Brethren who, for whatever reason they may have, do not see fit to fulfil their obligations as members of this Noble Order, by not attending Lodge, and by so doing, defeat the very objectives for which the Order stands.

I wish to remind you of what the Hebrew Order of David is and what it stands for. Following is a quote from a booklet outlining the history and mission of the Order.

“The Hebrew Order of David International is a forum for an ever growing number of Jewish males, operating as a cohesive fraternal unit supporting its members and serving the community, applying Jewish Ideals and values while providing its members with the opportunity for personal development”.

The very atmosphere in a Lodge engenders the opportunity for the propagation of Peace, Unity, Fraternity and Love amongst its members, which are the basic principles of the Order. These ideals can only be fulfilled with the full support of all its Brethren. Your Lodge is a resort which enables you to establish a closer companionship with your fellowmen, particularly with those who you may otherwise have no contact. Our motto “V’Ahavtah Le’raecha K’mocha” – “Love Thy Neighbour as Thyself ” is only achieved by interaction with your Brethren. Furthermore, the Order was also founded to promote benevolence for those of our fellow Jews who find themselves in a position less fortunate than ourselves.

It is only with your support and participation that these objectives can be achieved, and giving up one evening in a month is no sacrifice in support of these great ideals. You owe it to your Brethren, and more importantly, you owe it to yourselves, by setting an example and making an appearance at Open Lodge. This month we will be Initiating a new member, and I urgently appeal to each and every one of you to attend and show a new Brother that we are an Organization that means business.

Your Management Committee is planning to make the meetings more interesting by having guest speakers to address us on topics of general interest. Our Guest Speaker this month is Worthy Brother Morrie Sacks,

who will relate some of his memories and experiences as a member of the Order for Fifty years. Brother Max Grunberg, who was awarded “The Royal Order of the Polar Star” by the Swedish Ambassador, on behalf of the King of Sweden, for his research of Raoul Wallenberg, will be addressing us at Table Lodge after our June Open Lodge Meeting. This should prove to be a most interesting talk at Table Lodge.

I sincerely look forward to seeing you all at Lodge this month and having the Temple filled to capacity

With the warmest of fraternal greetings

WORTHY BROTHER  BENNIE STEINGOLD.

PRESIDENT.
