FROM THE
PRESIDENT’S PEN:
Dear Worthy Brethren and Brethren,
Please take this as my personal invitation to you to join me at my first Open Lodge Meeting in my second Term of Office as President of Lodge Moledet. As you know, the last time I was President was in the 1987/88 year, which was a very successful year for Lodge Moledet.
I have no doubt in my mind that this term will be equally as successful, as I have an extremely competent team, including my Vice- President (Wor.Bro Moshe), Immediate Past President (Wor.Bro Bennie) and the rest of the Management Committee, who are all raring to go. I sincerely hope that each and every one of you will make yourselves available to join at least one sub-committee.
During this Term, we will be concentrating more on Chaverschaft events, and less on expanding our Charity commitments. Because of the current difficult time we live in, we find it extremely tough to collect donations. We hope that by expanding on our Chaverschaft events we will be able to get together much more often, and so help to build our Lodge into a strong Brotherhood.
During this year we will be Elevating those Brethren who have not yet been Elevated to the Second Degree. We are preparing a list of such Brethren, and if you are in possession of the First degree only, and we have overlooked you by mistake, please let me know.
I will be preparing the draw for the new 50/50 club, and would be much obliged if you would indicate to me, as soon as possible, if you would like to participate. Remember it is N.I.S. 30-00 for inclusion in
three monthly draws.
Fraternally,
Worthy
Brother Claude Lavenski.
President.

One of the Residents, at Beit Zimmerman, was unable to attend the recent Purim

worthwhile, but sincerely appreciated.

“ HORSELESS CARRIAGES ”
- an early episode:
In
1886, Karl Benz drove his first automobile
through the streets of Munich, Germany. The car was the
forerunner of today’s Mercedes Benz.
The
machine angered the citizens, because it was noisy and scared the
children and horses. Pressured
by the citizens, the local officials immediately
established a speed limit for “ Horseless Carriages ”
of 3 ½ miles an hour in the city limits and 7 miles an hour outside.
Benz
knew he could never develop a
market for his car and compete against
horses if he had to creep along at those speeds, so he invited
the mayor of the town for a ride.
The
mayor accepted. Benz then
arranged for a
milkman to park his horse and wagon on a certain street and, as Benz and the mayor
drove by, to whip up his old horse and pass them - and as he did so to give the German equivalent of the Bronx cheer.
The
plan worked. The mayor was furious and
demanded that Benz overtake
the milk wagon. Benz
apologized but said that
because of the ridiculous
speed law he was not permitted to go any faster. Very soon after that the law was changed.
Benz
proved that the art of diplomacy is getting people to see things your way.

HOLOCAUST SURVIVOR’S “
SPIRITUAL RESISTANCE
”:
A very interesting article
has appeared in the
HAARETZ NEWSPAPER, published on Friday
16 th.
April, 2004.
The
article tells of how our Brother Max
Grunberg was instrumental in the formation of a group in Ra’anana, the English
Speaking Yom Ha’Shoah Committee,
that is actively involved in
research, and recording oral
testimony from Holocaust Survivor’s,
about the “ Spiritual
Resistance
” during the Holocaust.
It has become evident
that this aspect has only recently been
recognized as an important
aspect of the history of the Holocaust.
Regretfully,
Brother Max is not
available to come and tell us more about this interesting
research until our Open Lodge Meeting at the end of July. Further deatails will be given at a
later date.
Should anyone wish to see the article in the HAARETZ NEWSPAPER, it may be accessed by clicking on the Website http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/416089.html
