FROM THE
PRESIDENT’S PEN:
Dear Worthy Brethren and Brethren,
This being my last Presidential Message before vacating my position, I use the opportunity to express my sincerest appreciation to all members of the Management Committee, and to all Brethren of this Lodge, without whose support I could not have successfully seen through my two Terms of Office as President of this Lodge.
I don’t intend singing the praises of each Brother who contributed, although there are a great many who are worthy of praise, but I do feel obliged to single out one or two of our Brethren who discharged duties over and above those assigned to them. I feel that they merit recognition as their deeds were done behind the scenes. Many things are simply taken for granted, without a thought as to how they came about.
Brother Gaby Haimovitz, each and every month, without being called upon to do so, assumed the responsibility of seeing to it that the Temple was set out well in advance of the start of each Open Lodge Meeting. Long after everyone else has gone, he remained behind to make sure that the premises were left in the same condition as he had found them, and that the Regalia was put back in its place.
Worthy Brother Ivan Waldman assumed the responsibility of caterer for Table Lodge, and not only did he attend to the food and drinks, but also accompanied me each month to make required purchases. In his absence, Worthy Brother Claude Lavenski took over his role. Worthy Brother Ivan also attended to the maintenance and restoration of those items of furniture that had been damaged or broken over the years.
I would also like to pay a special tribute to Brother Sam Kirsch, who, halfway through the year, agreed to take over the Treasury from Worthy Brother Max Geffen, who, regretfully, due to ill health, was obliged to relinquish the post. Brother Sam threw himself into the position from the very first day, and was absolutely meticulous, not only in the way that he handled the finances, but more importantly, in the way that he cared for them.
To these Brethren, and all the other Brethren who unstintingly supported me, and there weren’t but a few, I say: “ You have all been true Brethren ”.
I also cannot let this opportunity pass without expressing my gratitude to Gertrude Franco for organizing the entertainment at all Beit Zimmerman Purim and Chanukah parties. Gertrude herself is an accomplished pianist, and not only does she perform at the parties, but also arranges for other musicians and singers who volunteer to perform. The entertainment is always of the highest distinction. On behalf of the residents of Beit Zimmerman, I express my sincerest thanks to Gertrude and her team of volunteers, for bringing a little sunshine into their lives.
I am happy to say that these two years passed without incident, and peace and harmony prevailed throughout. The memories of these past two years will be cherished for many years to come. To my successor, Worthy Brother Claude Lavenski, I wish a successful Term of Office. May he derive no less a satisfaction from this esteemed Office, as I did from mine. I also pledge to do all in my power to assist and support him at all times. My best wishes also go to the incoming Committee, and may all their deliberations be fruitful.
Fraternally,
Worthy Brother Bennie
Steingold.
President.
